Dr. Willis, a Shreveport native, graduated from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in 1982. After 2 years of general surgery residency at LSUMC, he spent 5 years at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he completed his neurosurgical residency. Afterwards, he served on the faculty at University of New Mexico, helping to develop their neurosurgical program there. In 1992, he returned home to his alma mater, joining Dr. Nanda to form the Department of Neurosurgery at LSU-HCS. He is currently an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery.
Dr. Willis is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He is extensively trained in a wide array of neurosurgical techniques, including microsurgery for tumors and vascular abnormalities, neuroendoscopy, stereotactic surgery, and use of the Gamma Knife. He has a special interest in neurosurgical diseases of childhood and infancy such as spina bifida and hydrocephalus. In 1994, he returned to the University of Utah for additional Pediatric Neurosurgery training. He has also published a number of articles and book chapters on neurosurgical topics. Dr. Willis lives on his farm in Benton with his wife, Novie Loree, and their four children, Stephen, Valerie, Michael, and Michelle. He is active in his church and community. His past-times include drag-racing, rock-climbing, and snowboarding. |
