Donald R. Smith MD

Dr. Smith is a native of Louisiana and a graduate of LSU Medical School in New Orleans. He completed training in Neurosurgery at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Military service included active and reserve duty tours in the Vietnam conflict and in Desert Storm.

Dr. Smith was instrumental in the development of the neurosurgical service at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport while a member of the voluntary faculty. He has extensive experience and interests in surgery of the spine, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery as well as the general field of neurosurgery. He is the author of multiple publications in neurosurgical research and clinical areas. Dr. Smith has held numerous positions in the Shreveport Medical Society including that of President, and in the Medical Staff leadership of local Shreveport hospitals. He is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society and the AMA. He is a member of a number of national specialty societies including the Congress of Neurosurgery, American Association of Neurosurgery, Southern Neurosurgical Society and the North American Spine Society. For the past three years he has been listed in the publication, Best Doctors in America.
