About LSUHSC University Neurosurgery
University Neurosurgery is the largest and busiest neurosurgical service in the state of Louisiana. The University neurosurgeons perform more than 1500 neurosurgical procedures each year and have established a national reputation for excellency in many areas of neurosurgery. Currently, University Neurosurgery has five neurosurgeons. These physicians are the neurosurgery faculty for LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Our faculty neurosurgeons subspecialize in many different aspects of neurosurgery in order to offer state of the art technology and procedures. The University Neurosurgery physicians have extensive neurosurgical experience, including the management of complicated and difficult cases. In addition to the LSU Health Sciences Center Hospital, our patients have access to innovative treatment and diagnostic methods available at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center, Christus Scumpert Bossier, Shriners Hospital for Children, Schumpert Medical Center, Willis-Knighton Pierremont Medical Center, and the Overton Brooks Veterans Administration Medical Center. There are four convenient office locations to serve our patients, located throughout the Shreveport and Bossier City Metropolitan areas.

All members of University Neurosurgery perform general neurosurgery for disorders of the brain and spine. Subspecialties include gamma knife radiosurgery, neuro-oncology, pediatric neurosurgery, skull base surgery, vascular procedures, seizures surgery, and stereotactic procedures, as well as the many aspects of spinal disease. University Neurosurgery operates the first Gamma Knife installation located in the state of Louisiana. This is the most advanced radiosurgical equipment available for neurosurgical patients today. Since acquiring the Leksell Gamma Knife on January 31, 2000, University Neurosurgery has performed 35 such treatment procedures, as of May 30, 2000, and anticipates reaching 100 procedures by the end of the year 2000.

In addition to providing excellent patient care, our neurosurgeons have many publications in current neurosurgical journals. These include Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, Skull Base Surgery, Journal of Trauma, American Journal of Clinical Oncology, as well as many other journals. Publications also include multiple book chapters in current neurosurgical texts.

While it is our reputation for clinical and research expertise that attracts patients from throughout the Ark-La-Tex, the state of Louisiana and beyond, it is the caring atmosphere that our patients remember most after contact with our service.
